disaster and accident
A Delhi court today remanded Amrit Singh, the owner of the building which collapsed here killing 67 people, in two days police custody.
“Custodial interrogation of the accused is necessary for the recovery of the ownership documents of the building and hence, the application seeking two days of his police custody is allowed,” Metropolitan Magistrate Bhawani Sharma said.
Seeking to quiz the building owner in custody, the public prosecutor said that till now 67 persons have died in the accident and the recovery of the documents was necessary to ascertain various facts related to the 25-year-old house.
The accused, who was arrested yesterday from Geeta Colony here, has been booked under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC, which prescribes life imprisonment as the maximum sentence.
The counsel for the accused, however, opposed the move saying “at best, Amrit Singh could be booked under section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC (which provides two years jail term as maximum sentence).”
Sixty-seven persons died and 82 people were injured when the building at Lalita Park in Laxmi Nagar came crashing down around on November 15.
Most of the victims were migrant labourers and their family members.

Kutiyana: Being obsessed with Google, a betel shop owner has exposed the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) scam in Porbandar where most of the laborers mentioned in the list of beneficiaries were affluent NRIs, doctors in real life, who had never been a part of any job scheme. They have been shown as unemployed village labourers holding NREGA job cards, reports Hiral Dave of the Financial Express.
Is Telecom Minister A Raja's resignation a sign of upcoming justice on 2G scam?
Yes
No it's not
View result
The amount involved in this scam is estimated at about 1 crore. 37 years old, Aslam Khokhar, who owns a betel shop in Kutiyana had just learnt to use computers and searched NREGA on Google where he found every detail of NREGS worked in his village area on the website and then he discovered the job card of a friend who holding a service in the Government. Then he found that there were doctors, teachers and NRIs, who were familiar to him as they were from the same village, being listed as 'labourers' on the site.
As per records, there are 963 NREGA job cardholders at Kotda village in Kutiyana taluka of Porbandar district. On papers, they have been paid over 95 lakh for their labour since three years. But in reality, none of them have ever participated in physically demanding activities like digging wells, building roads or actually received any money for the same purpose under NREGA.
Khokhar was immediately joined by Veja Modedara, an independent councillor at Kutiyana taluka panchayat and Bhanukant Odedara, a Congress worker to conduct door to door meetings with villagers whose names have been found on the website and after that, the trio revealed that neither of those people have ever worked on any NREGA site nor received any wages under the scheme.
Government employees are shocked to know about such a thing and they question about the possibility of getting a NREGA job card when they hold position in Government office.

Dear All,
A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they yelled to the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling to them to stop, that there was no hope.
Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died.
The other frog continued jumping as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop his jumping and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, (after taking a needed rest) the other frogs clammered, "Didnt you hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time.
From this we learn two lessons:
A. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day.
B. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes to kill them.
This is Niazi reminding you that words have the power of life and death. Be careful of what you say. Speak words of encouragement to those who cross your path. it is often difficult to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time to encourage another. Be that special person.

Hi ysftpp,I have just signed a petition to put Indian interests above the interests of foreign nuclear corporations. Please see the mail below and sign the petition at http://ping.fm/a7iN0
Regards,
Last week over 600 people were arrested for standing up for their rights to live and work in safe surroundings. Over 2320 acres of land are being acquired by the NPCIL(Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd) to build 6 mega nuclear reactors in Ratnagiri district. The public protests have been suppressed using police violence and false charges[1].
The NPCIL is planning to import expensive and unsafe nuclear reactors from French company, Areva. US and European nuclear regulators have identified severe flaws in the reactor and they have not approved the design.[2]
Over 2000 people will lose their land and over 10,000 people will have their health and livelihood affected due to this plant. Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh has the power to stop the import of dangerous nuclear reactors and listen to the concerns of the local people.
Can you write a letter to Dr. Manmohan Singh asking him to put the interests of Indian people above the interests of foreign nuclear companies.
http://ping.fm/7kPMX
Most of the people around the region have refused the compensation offered by the goverment. Showing their opposition to the nuclear power plant, over 3000 people voluntarily risked jail and they have been joined by prominent figures such as former High Court judge B. G. Kolse-Patil, Admiral L. Ramdas and retired Supreme Court Judge P. B. Samant.
The Indian government is once again putting the profits of foreign companies above the interests of it's own people. Instead of putting people at risk we can provide safe electricity at a cheaper cost[3] and much faster[4] with decentralised Renewable Energy.
Write to Dr. Manmohan Singh now and put the safety of Indians first.

Thanks a billion!
